We had a great time in Spain. Good hotels, food, city tours and a fabulous tour guide. Our only disapointment was not getting a tour of the inside of Alhambra even though it was part of the package. We were not given a clear answer to why this happened but it might be because the Alhambra was over-booked.... Read More

SPANISH DISCOVERY

9 NIGHTS / 11 DAYS

Day 1: Canada - Madrid (Spain)
Flight with a good itinerary.

Day 2: Madrid
Arrival at the airport in Madrid. You will be greeted by our local representatives after exiting the customs and transferred to your hotel in Madrid. The rest of your day is free for you to relax or start your exploration of the vibrant city of Madrid.

Day 3: Madrid - Cordoba - Seville
After breakfast at the hotel, departure toward Cordoba through the large plains of La Mancha. Cordoba is a true crossroad of cultures. Founded by the Romans, the city was transformed by the Jewish, Muslim and Catholic communities who occupied it over several centuries. Today, the city retains an undeniable authenticity and charm with its whitewashed buildings, its shaded squares and its flowered patios.   On this sightseeing tour, you will visit the emblem of its past greatness, the magnificent mosque-cathedral (Mezquita-Catedral) built as a mosque in 784 and which became a Catholic church in 1236. This building alone marks the peak of the Muslim occupation in Spain. You will also visit the Juderia, the old Jewish quarter of Cordoba, developed in the Middle-Ages in a maze of small alleys around the mosque-cathedral. Continuation to Sevilla where dinner will be offered at the hotel. (Breakfast-Dinner)

Day 4: Seville
Breakfast at your hotel. In the morning, guided city tour of Seville, the Andalusian capital and the largest city in southern Spain. The only name of Seville evokes sunshine, tapas, flamenco and bullfighting. The city also has many architectural gems, a mixture of Gothic and Moorish style, that are witnesses of the Muslim conquest of Spain in the Middle Ages.   You will visit Seville Cathedral and the Giralda Tower, symbols of the Moorish style, the sumptuous Plaza de España, and María Luisa Park, one of the largest in Seville. You will also see Santa Cruz district, with its typical cobbled streets and flowered terraces, which becomes effervescent after sunset. Afternoon and evening free to continue your exploration of Seville. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. (Breakfast-Dinner)

Day 5: Seville - Granada
Following breakfast at the hotel, departure toward Granada, the jewel of Andalusia. Set in a majestic environment at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Granada is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. Its historical and cultural heritage attract visitors from all around the world.   During your visit, you will be amazed by the stunning Alhambra Palace and its Generalife gardens, the most prestigious example of the Muslim presence in Spain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will also be charmed by the troglodyte houses, dug in the rock at Sacromonte, which are still hosting some intimate flamenco shows. Dinner and overnight in Granada (Breakfast-Dinner)

Day 6: Granada - Valencia
Breakfast at the hotel and departure toward Valencia, via Guadix, Baza and Puerto Lumbreras. Arrival in Valencia, the third largest city in Spain, located where the Turia river meets the Mediterranean Sea on the southeast coast of Spain. Enjoy the end of the afternoon in the port city, renowned for its architectural richness, a mixture between an ancient heritage built over the centuries around the superb Plaza de la Virgen, and contemporary architecture symbolized by its remarkable City of Arts and Sciences, which has given life to the city. Overnight in Valencia. (Breakfast)

Day 7: Valencia - Barcelona
After breakfast at the hotel, free time to stroll through the old town of Valencia and to discover the sumptuous Saint Mary's Cathedral from the 13th century and the Central Market, one of the most lively and stimulating in the country. Departure for Barcelona around midday. Take advantage of the rest of the afternoon at leisure to start your exploration of Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe.   Explore the district of La Barceloneta, surrounded by a long promenade lined with palm trees and San Sebastia beach on one side and the Old Gothic quarter on the other side. A former fishing district, La Barceloneta is today bustling with bars and restaurants and is a popular meeting place for locals and tourists. (Breakfast)

Day 8: Barcelona
Following breakfast at the hotel, departure for a guided city tour of Barcelona, world-renowned for its art and architecture. On the hill of Montjuïc you will discover the park of the same name, the green lung of the city, from where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the port. Not far from there, you will see the Olympic ring, the main site of the 1992 Olympic Games. Then you will explore the Old Gothic quarter, one of the best preserved in Europe, with the monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus, the Plaça Reial, the emblematic Rambla and the Barcelona Cathedral from the 15th century.   The rest of the day is free for you to continue your exploration of Barcelona. Search for the monuments designed by Gaudi, one of the architects of the city who participated in its global fame. You will certainly be impressed by the Sagrada Familia, its masterpiece and a unique monument with a singular architecture, and the Park Güell, both listed UNESCO World Heritage Sites. (Breakfast)

Day 9: Barcelona - Zaragoza - Madrid
Breakfast at the hotel and departure toward Madrid. En route, you will stop in Zaragoza, the capital of Aragon. Crossed by the Ebro river, Zaragoza has a very rich cultural and historical heritage. During your free time, wander around the Old Town and discover the Basilica del Pilar, an important pilgrimage site dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and Aljaferia Palace, a medieval fortress from the 11th century and an important testimony of the Spanish-Islamic architecture. Continuation to Madrid. Check-in at the hotel and overnight in Madrid. (Breakfast)

Day 10: Madrid
After breakfast at the hotel, you will discover Madrid, one of the youngest capitals in Europe, a vibrant and captivating city. The Spanish capital stands out for its ancient heritage inherited from the reign of the Habsburg and Bourbon dynasties, the abundance of small districts each with their own village atmosphere, and its cultural offer including the Prado and the Reina Sofia museums.   Enjoy an interesting panoramic tour of Madrid including the Gran Via and Plaza de España, the remarkable Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Puerta de Alcalá, and the legendary Real Madrid stadium, Santiago Bernabéu. Afternoon and evening free to continue your exploration of Madrid. (Breakfast)
